Positive reinforcement as a method of dog training is a break with the past techniques for dog training, some of which were quite inhumane, including the use of pain and threats. What makes positive reinforcement work is that natural instinct of all dogs is to please their owners, and this plays into the theory of positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement recognizes the fact that lessons are a more effective way to teach dogs. This means that when a dog is able to figure out your commands in their own time and using their own brains.

Some ways for you to help the dog training process along is through the use of meaningful rewards, like tempting food treats as a primary incentive to help keep your dogs learning at a high standard, instead of just a pat on the head.

Make sure that your dog knows what he is being rewarded for when he obeys a command, you use the right timing as you mark the behavior that you’re going to reward so that, when he gets the treat, he understands just what behavior it was that earned him the reward.

It is also important to be consistent with yours dog training command, as in using the same command though consistent repetition, using the same phrase every time. The actions should be associated with a particular phrase, since your dog’s rate of obedience will be much better if you choose one particular phrase and use it every time you wish him to perform a particular behavior for you.

This article should give you a basic insight into some of the more helpful methods and techniques you could use when training your dog. However, the subject remains pretty complex, and it’s a good idea to learn as much about effective training techniques as possible. One excellent resource for dog training is Secrets to Dog Training: the ultimate training and knowledge database for dog owners.
Advantages of German Shepherd Dogs

German Shepherd dogs are large, strong and athletic, and so they need a quite a bit of mental stimulation and exercise. Nevertheless a well trained German Shepherd dog can be trained to do almost anything. These dogs usually perform well when it come to doing more demanding activities and they love to please their master.

Consider the Amount of German Shepherd Dog Training That Will be Needed

If you are considering owning a German Shepherd you must look at how much German shepherd dog training is going to be required so that the result is you will have happy, well trained and behaved German Shepherd dog that you can be able to take just about anywhere safely.

You will find that even a young German Shepherd dog can be a handful for an inexperienced owner. Because even very young German Shepherd dogs are capable of jumping and even knocking over children and the elderly. These dogs don’t generally mature until they are 3 years old. Leaving a German Shepherd home alone can result in considerable damage to your home.

The German Shepherd dog must be well socialized from an early age and they need a lot of exposure to people and other dogs, otherwise they could develop some aggressive tendencies as they go into adulthood.

You should start your German Shepherd dog training from an early age, since at a very early age it will be better when it comes to teaching him what is acceptable behavior and what is not. This will provide some invaluable grounding for your German Shepherd dog training.

In your German Shepherd dog training you need to understand that your dogs’ behavior is almost completely influenced by instinct and you must work to counter that instinct with conditioned behavior through human training.

As Part of Your German Shepherd Dog Training You Need to Establish a Social Hierarchy First

The way to do this is in establishing a social hierarchy within your home starting the first day you bring your German Shepherd puppy home. This hierarchy consists of an Alpha dog, which is the dominant dog; the Alpha is then followed by the Beta dog, or next in line of succession.

The Alpha dog is the supreme ruler of the pack; above all the other dogs in the pack, submissive to no one. The Beta dog being second in line for dominance is submissive to the Alpha but still dominates the other dogs in pack.

The main thing to keep in mind is that your German Shepherd needs and is quite happy when he has an Alpha dog to provide him firm, dependable leadership. The German Shepherd dog is instinctively hard wired to move up in the pack position, leading him to test the boundaries, be misbehaving, especially during training.

In the German Shepherd dog training process that you will be setting up, it means that for you to be able to successfully train your German Shepherd dog, you have to become the Alpha dog of your pack. By doing that you establish a proper relationship between you and your dog from the beginning. This will enable him to bond to you more closely, more deeply and work harder to please you, if you make sure he understands his relationship with you.

You should see to it that you take your Labrador puppy to be taught through a proper obedience program, as this will give you the necessary confidence that will enable you to train your Labrador puppy to be a truly great dog and companion.

Below are 5 Labrador puppy training tips that can help you in train your Lab.

Labrador Puppy Training Tip 1. Housebreaking – First thing to do is get a crate. Most of the time if a puppy starts his training in a crate can accept the crate very well. A puppy should never be allowed to run loose in the house. If there is no one around to watch the puppy, he should be put in the crate.

Next your Labrador puppy will need to learn is that his bathroom is outside in the yard, not inside your home. He will need understand this beginning from the first day he arrives in your home. You will have a perfectly housebroken pet by following these steps:

Take your dog outside if you think he may need to relieve himself, doing this during the first 8 to 9 weeks after your Lab puppy has arrived, since this period is critical in insuring successful housebreaking. You should take him out every hour, 5 minutes after eating or drinking, after playtime or exercise. Other times for taking him out is if he becomes excited, right before bed, and of course, immediately after he wakes up in the morning.

Labrador Puppy Training Tip 2. Obedience class for your Lab – Enroll your Labrador puppy in obedience classes as soon as he can meet the age requirement. The proper obedience training that you would receive from a qualified dog training instructor will give you the tools you will need continue to train your dog. The end result will be that you will have a Labrador puppy who will be a well-trained dog that can take direction from you.

Labrador Puppy Training Tip 3. Always strive to be Consistent with Your Labrador Puppy Training – Consistency is required for Labrador puppy training. You should be using one word commands and the same hand signals when you are training a Labrador puppy. The more repetitious you are, the faster your dog will learn. Also, don’t forget to take breaks during the training and try to make it fun for your dog, since dogs are known to have rather limited attention spans. Be sure to reward him when he obeys. Remember, Labs like most dogs will eat anything, but they really love their treats.

Use one-word dog training commands, as one-word commands will be easier for your Labrador puppy to understand in the beginning. You should start your training by teaching your Labrador puppy the ’sit’ command. Use the same one-word dog training command consistently or the puppy will not understand the command. For example, say, “Sit” instead of “Sit down.” Or sometimes “Sit” and sometimes “Sit down.” Always be consistent with your dog training command terms.

Labrador Puppy Training Tip 4. Employing Correct Discipline in Your Dog – There are going to be times when you need to enforce discipline in your Labrador puppy training. But disciplining your dog should not include shouting at your dog. When your dog does something wrong, look him in the eye and use a firm tone of voice to say “No”. Show him how to do what you asked, and then use praise with him to help him understand why he is being praised. Discipline is important during puppyhood, but remember never hit your Labrador puppy!

Labrador Puppy Training Tip 5. Giving Your Dog Praise – Every time your Labrador puppy listens to your commands and obeys them and does them right you praise him. He will like hearing the praise, and he will just become more devoted over time and be even more determined to do things in a way that pleases you.

The main object of basic dog obedience training is in getting your dog or puppy to understand and obey the 5 basic dog obedience training commands. These commands are Sit, Stay, Heel, Come, and Down.

Here we will look at Basic Dog Obedience Training Command 3 – Heel

In basic dog obedience training, the purpose of the ‘heel’ command is to have your dog walk alongside you, instead of in front of you. If a dog does this correctly, the leash remains slack, and the result is that the dog keep to your walking pace.

You can start training your dog to ‘heel’ by putting your dog on a short leash. With the dog by your side facing in the same direction give him the ‘heel’ command using a firm voice. Start walking forward. If you see that the dog is walking along with you, be sure to praise him. Consistency is important, and your dog needs to realize that he’ll get your enthusiastic praise for correct behavior. If your dog pulls away, or lags, you should use a firm snap of the leash on his collar and reprimand him by saying ‘No’. Remember to always reward him when he does it right.

Here we will look at Basic Dog Obedience Training Command 4 – Come

Teaching your dog the ‘come’ command is very important as it can provide a solid foundation for trust between you and your dog. It can also potentially save his life.

Begin training your dog in the command by putting your dog on a leash and bring along some tasty treats that your dog is known to like.

When your dog is a short distance from you, crouch down, open your arms and say ‘Come!’. He should get excited and come over to you. If not, gently pull him towards you using the leash. When he begins to come on his own, you can stop pulling the leash, and encourage him, and then reward him with a tasty treat, and be sure to praise.

When looking for a dog or puppy, you no doubt put a lot of time and effort into picking out the perfect “dream” companion. After you have been together for awhile you spoil him with as much love, affection, and attention you can give him. But after awhile, after you’ve tried everything you could think of, you find that your “perfect” dog still isn’t trained and is starting do things that annoy you.

You realize that you need to do something about your dogs obedience training.

A dogs obedience training includes the process of teaching a dog to exhibit certain desired behaviors in specific circumstances. Some of these circumstances include:

* Training in dog basic obedience commands (part of the dogs obedience training)

* Guide dog training for the blind

* Rescue dog training to help locates victims in a disaster situation

* Training for hunting dogs so they can learn to perform instinctive behaviors at appropriate times

The specific behaviors taught in each circumstance are different, but they each use similar underlying principles.

For your dogs obedience training the goal is to establish the correct relationship right from the start. When you first bring your puppy home, he has gone from an environment of a natural pack order with his brothers & sisters and his mother, and some contact with the breeder. When the puppy sees that there are no other dogs around he might start to think he is in charge now. You will need to start establishing to the puppy that you are in charge not him.

Puppies are fine with that because in the wild as pack animals, dogs have the natural instincts that cause them to accept training. Dogs are by nature either leaders or followers and you must instill in your dog that you are the leader of the pack.

The Basics of Your Dogs Obedience Training

This starts with basic obedience commands, and these commands are the key to having a good relationship with your dog. This stage of the dogs obedience training should be gentle and supportive, without punishment. At this point they should be starting to learn the simple commands like “come”, and being sure to use praise quite a bit when the dog responds correctly to the command.

Teaching More Complex Concepts

When your dog has mastered the more basic commands, start to introduce more complex concepts (like “stay” or “sit”), and that you break down the task into smaller, easier exercises first. For instance you should first teach the dog how to sit properly, before you ask him to respond to the command.

Consistency in dog training is important along with positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is must be done immediately during or after your puppy has followed the given commands, or there is a chance that he could associate the praise with something else besides the intended action.

As you are beginning your dogs obedience training remember that timing and consistency are key when training with your young puppy. Every day you should be planning, when and how to work on these essential skills with your dog, and then try to perform them at the same time every day.

The training sessions should be fun, and should even include games, praise, and hugging. Ideally your dog should be able to look forward to each session, as he would his daily exercise.

The head collars used in dog collar training have become an increasingly popular dog training tool in the past couple of years. Two of the most well known brands of head collar on the market are the Gentle Leader and the Halti, but there are many other brands that incorporate the basic head collar concept.

Those head collars considered to be the most successful consist of two woven fabric loops, one loop should fit snugly around the dog’s neck just behind his ears. At the same time the other loop loops around the muzzle loosely enough so that the dog will still be able to eat, drink, bark, and even bite.

There are two head collar brands prominently on the market, they are Halti and the Gentle Leader. There are other brands that also employ the basic head collar idea.

The Gentle Leader head collar is designed to remove the tendency of the dog to pull by placing gentle pressure on calming points and preventing any uncomfortable pressure on the dog’s throat. The Gentle Leader is also useful in dog collar training because it discourages lunging, jumping, excessive barking, and calming an anxious or aggressive animal.

HALTI is also a popular choice in head collars because it has been designed to combine maximum steering efficiency without sacrificing comfort for the dog. The collar has no metal parts in contact with the dog’s skin and the point of steering is situated well down the nose and away from the dog’s eyes. A feature of the HALTI head collar not found on other designs of head collars, is that with this collar the owner can use an on-off muzzling action to close the dog’s jaws.

There are advantages to training a dog with a head collar as opposed to dog collar training with a traditional or training collar. This is because head collars are easier to use for beginning dog trainers than training collars. Head collars are also useful when it comes to preventing dogs from pulling, or controlling and retraining dogs that have a tendency to pull.

When the head collar is fitted correctly, it mimics the two most common holds dogs used in communicating leadership to other dogs low in rank in the pack. Adult dogs either will grasp the subordinate dog firmly, but gently, just behind the ears, or they will hold it by the muzzle, with the collar serving to constantly remind the younger or subordinate dog that he’s not in charge.

When it comes to how a dog responds to the collar and how the owner reacts to the dog’s response can give us a valuable insight about the animal’s behavior and its relationship with his owner. Dogs naturally operate in and need a stable pack structure to give them a feeling of security. The head collar in dog collar training can help to communicate your leadership to your dog and can help them to accept that they live in a human-centered pack, dogs will naturally assume that position because every pack must have a leader.

The head collar can also be effective at controlling a dog’s behavior in difficult situations may like needing to control a dog that wants to be with other dogs. The collars can be effective at controlling other difficult situations. Head collars are great when taking your dog on an outing, or even in an area where there will the dog will be around other dogs and other distractions.

While a head collar can be a great tool for dog collar training, it is not to be used as a replacement for proper dog training. For a head collar to be effective it must be used in combination with sensible dog or puppy training methods, like reward training and other forms of positive reinforcement.

In conclusion, the head collar can be an important and useful tool, bus it is important to use it appropriately, follow all the package instructions, and make sure you combine using the head collar with solid <a href=""http://bit.ly/4xmjMQ>training methods. The goal of dog collar training with a head collar should that the dog behaves as well with a regular collar as it does with the specialized head collar.

Just where do you send him? Which dog training schools can be trusted?

You want to locate a school that will be sensitive to your puppy’s needs as he is starting the long and arduous task of learning to interpret your English commands and hand signals.

What is there to look for in dog training schools? You want to select a school that is sensitive to your puppy’s needs he begins the task of learning to interpret your commands and hand signals, and you also want a school that will respect your needs as the owner. How do you know where to send him? What are the best types of dog training schools that have classes for your particular puppy?

There are quite a lot of dog training schools available and it can be a rather difficult decision for many dog owners to just selecting one, and because there are so many schools available is why this decision is so difficult.

Most dog owners be confused by all the different types of dog training schools available, and also by all the different training methods available too. Most dog owners want to make the best informed decision when it comes to selecting a dog training school but are often not sure how to do this.

Some of the things you need to consider when reviewing dog training schools is if you want your dog to receive training in private training classes or group training classes, or even a combination of the two. There are both advantages and disadvantages of both types of classes.

For example private training classes allow the trainer to devote all of his attention to the dog while the dog may not get as much personalized attention in a group setting that usually contain around ten dogs with their owners. These classes may be the best solution for dogs that are rather difficult to train, or have a problem with aggression, or are easily distracted with other dogs around. The group training class is good in that it gives a dog a chance to socialize with the other dogs in the class. Socialization is especially important for puppies.

What is it that you would like the school to teach? What do they specialize in? There are some dog training schools that offer only obedience training while other schools will give you instruction in police work, service dog training, tracking, agility, and more.

Where can you go to help you to do research and make the right decision? You can turn to the internet to find dog training resources and advice. The American Kennel Club is very quite respected and provides a list of good dog training schools in most states. Group training classes are offered by many pet supply stores. You can get recommendations from friends too.

The cost of dog training schools can vary quite widely. Typically the group training classes offered by pet supply stores are quite affordable, while private training classes being offered through individual dog trainers will be more expensive.

After looking though all of the many dog training schools you are bound to find one that is right for you. It will just take some extensive deliberation to decide what is best for both you and your new puppy.

Both dog leash training and reward training have been around for quite awhile now, and over that time they have been shown to be effective in getting the respect of the dog.

The leash and training collars for dog collar training are the most basic piece of training equipment used in dog leash training or in collar training dogs. The correct use of the lead and training collar in dog collar training is vital to any successful dog training.

Dog collar training is used to get dogs trained as fast as possible in a way that is also humane. The way a training collar is used to apply a certain amount of pressure each time that the leash is tightened. This then controls the amount of pressure placed on the training collar, and this pressure can then be adjusted according to just how the dog responds to the dog leash training.

Dog leash training is especially important in puppy training, since most dogs will not have a natural inclination to just follow by your side, but instead have a tendency to wander all over the place.

Dog leash training used when collar training dogs can represent the best way to accomplish many kinds of dog collar training programs. This is especially true in where the dog must achieve a rather high level of reliability in some situation. As an example, where dogs may have an important job to do, such as with rescue dogs, police dogs and guard dogs, dogs in these roles would greatly benefit from dog leash and collar training.

When starting dog leash training you should first purchase a sturdy and well made dog training collar, because you don’t want to risk your dog breaking his collar and running away. You should also make sure that the collar fits him properly.

The length of the dog collar should be approximately two inches longer than the circumference of the dog’s neck. You must use a measuring tape to accurately measure the dog’s neck. To be able to get an accurate measurement, the tape should not be tight around your dog’s neck.

In a collar or leash based dog leash training program, the dog is taught, at least in the beginning, a particular behavior, usually with the leash. After it is apparent the dog can show that he comprehends the particular command, the leash is then used to correct the dog when he might disobey, or when he falls short at any time. The leash is important tool when controlling and communicating with the dog in dog leash training or dog collar training.

There can be many different styles of dog training, even a different training style for every trainer. These styles even vary from dog to dog, and from breed to breed. This can make finding the one that works best for you rather challenging. The right training is important if you want to have a dog that is a talented, loyal and faithful companion for you and your family. The methods of dog training that are the most successful are those that work to strengthen the relationship between dog and handler, and therefore for a training program to be considered successful it must be able to get the respect of the dog.

When you start training your dog you will soon enough realize that you need a lot of patience in addition to giving your pet a lot of love. In fact first and foremost the most important thing that can be considered as a dog training tip is patience. This is especially true with dog training. Most people are familiar with the phrase ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’, while not always true with older dogs, it is however certainly easier to teach a younger dog when it comes to dog housebreaking obedience training.

However, many dog owners lack patience and as a result, the owner will be unable to keep from becoming when things do not go according to plan, and this can create the negative impact that can result by such a deviation from the positive-reinforcement route.

It may seem strange to consider retraining an owner before he or she trains a dog, but modern dog training techniques require a level of patience and calmness not always possessed by dog owners. Much research and experience has helped lead to an incontrovertible fact that successful dog training is dependent upon the use of positive reinforcement.

While being patient is the most important dog training tip there are other tips that can help too.

Dog Training Tip - Start Your Puppy Training Early

When you bring home a new puppy, remember it is still important to be patient with your puppy training. The earlier you start training the puppy, the quicker he will understand and respond to your training commands, but make sure not to rush the puppy training process. You can begin the training of your puppy if he is as young as 8 weeks old. Puppies are full of energy and they are just trying to adapt and explore the new world that is around them. Of course this will mean you will have to invest some time for training and a exercise a little extra patience, but it should be worth it in the end.

Dog Training Tip – Where to Find Information

When it comes to finding information there are books like Secrets to Dog Training that come highly recommended that one can read, and certainly over and over again, the necessity of patience is emphasized in Secrets to Dog Training . There are classes to take, and people with dog training experience to talk to. Check out The American Kennel Club web site where they provide some tips.

Dog Training Tip – Looking at Dog Training Methods

It is not difficult to find dog training information, what may be difficult is deciding what school of thought you may agree with, since there are many schools of thought when it comes to dog training. How do you want to train your dog? Will you be using a crate? Will you only use rewards for good behavior? Since it is important to be able to develop a truly great relationship based on respect with your dog training you must decide how you want to go about it.

In conclusion patience is important in dog training whether a puppy or mature dog. There are many places to find information. You need to decide what method of dog training you are comfortable with. Careful research is the only answer.
