It is a good idea to be offering treats while giving your dog house training.  Besides being well-deserved gifts for your dog, the treats can also be effective training tools.

Even with puppies the puppy training treats you select are also just as effective.  Be sure to have a pocket full of dog training treats when teaching your dog how to sit, stay, heel, or perform other similar commands. Check that the dog finds the dog training treats to be tasty. Dog treats that are dried up, poor quality, and tasteless will not make your dog as interested in being rewarded the way that a delicious piece of meat and the sweet aroma of cheese would.

Dogs can detect the presence of salt at a lower concentration too.

As anyone who has ever owned a dog knows they will eat just about everything, other than occasional vegetables.  Also it doesn’t seem to matter what anyone around the dog is eating, the desire for food is the same.  Why should the dog training treats be any different?

While it is a good idea to offer dog training treats to your dog as a reward in house training, too many treats will spoil your dog. Your dog will then only work only for the treats.

If you should stop giving him the treats, your dog may stop obeying you completely.  Your dog must understand that he must work for anything he gets from you. This is why when your dog has come to understand what he must do when it comes to commands that you should start to slowly faze out the treats.

Puppy training treats come in very handy when training dogs and can be a valuable resource, however many remain convinced that one treat probably works just as well as the next  Dogs may decide they like one treat better than the next but making that decision requires options.  No doubt if they are simply presented with a treat most dogs would not decline.

Training your dog can be a very long and very rewarding process. When you can teach your dog to obey you, you’re increasing the quality of life for both you and your dog. As it often is with any healthy relationship, both parties need to develop an understanding of who is the boss, and what their expectations are.

When used in dog training, psychology can be simple. Good behavior is to be rewarded, while bad behavior needs to be corrected. When you reward your dog’s good behavior, he will learn to enjoy obeying your commands, and also to associate good feelings with good behavior. Similarly, your dog will learn to avoid bad behavior, and all the headaches that could cause you, and, indirectly, your dog.
That’s all there is to it.

Rewards are also simple.  You can reward your dog by heaping praise on him, giving a thorough petting, or giving a treat.  You should be careful about overdoing it. Rewards are rewards, not bribes, and if you start to use rewards as bribes, your dog may learn to never do your bidding, unless you have some kind of tasty treat or a toy of some kind on hand.

If you you are worried about over-feeding your dog, you can use a technique called ‘clicker training’. You can use a child’s toy that gives out a loud clicking sound. The idea behind clicker training is that it is necessary to feed your dog some treats, however every time he gets a treat, give a loud ‘click’. This way your dog should eventually start associating the sound of the click with getting a treat, and then be able to associate a click with good feelings.
