The Importance of Proper Dog Behavior Training

Being able to train your dog to behave has many benefits, for both you and your dog.  Good dog behavior training methods are critical preventing such negative behaviors as aggression.  It is necessary to deal with and solve dog aggression problems by training dogs to interact appropriately with other dogs and especially with people. 

In order to know how to train your dog effectively so he will be a more loyal and eager pet, it is important to know the origin of dogs and where they came from, and see exactly how their interaction with each other can affect training.

The earliest domesticated dogs were believed to be abandoned wolf puppies that were taken in by the early humans.  These wild dogs were gradually trained to perform tasks that the humans needed help with, like guarding territory and frightening away any potential predators.  Humans in return provided their dogs with sanctuary and shelter, in addition to food and companionship.

This bond between dog and human continues today.  Dogs still perform many tasks for their masters, that include herding, guarding, and hunting.  Dogs are instinctively pack creatures and you must remember this before you begin a dog training program.  As in wild dog packs, you dog needs to learn his or her place in the ranking with you as his owner as leader of the pack. 

It is only when the alpha dog dies in the natural pack that the hierarchy ever undergo any changes once established.  The lower dogs understand that they are not to challenge the pack leader, and the alpha dog carries out his role and duties as pack leader providing  leadership, food, and protection for the other dogs. It is because of this natural characteristics of dogs that it is important for you to be the pack leader for your dog when you begin your dog training.

There are many reasons you must train a dog properly. Like the dogs in the pack a dog that submits to his human pack leader should be able to respect his commands without question.  You must be able to earn your dog’s respect. This is the first crucial step in effective dog training, and if done right it should lay the necessary groundwork for all succeeding training.
  
A calm and well-behaved dog can be quite pleasant to be around, both for the dog’s family, and for other people he might be around and encounter.  Also, an obedient dog can dispel fears that people may have about a dog, especially when it comes to the more controversial breeds like Rottweilers and Pit Bulls.

Knowing why a dog may exhibit a negative behavior is important to be able to effectively train and modify any bad behaviors.  For instance, separation anxiety may be at the heart of many bad dog behaviors like chewing or destructive behaviors.  Getting at the root cause of the problem should help eliminate any peripheral behaviors.

Stress and the inability to deal with it can also produce a many unpleasant dog behaviors.  One objective of any high-quality dog training program is to help the dog to deal stress issues without exhibiting any negative behaviors.

It is important to be able to differentiate human behavior and dog behavior during dog training and in working through bad behaviors.  Dogs and humans can have totally different motivations and reactions, so avoid any temptation to see your dog as having human traits, and react on that impulse.

The one thing that humans and dogs have in common is their sociability and need to form close groups and develop strong bonds.  While the bonding is very important for the relationship of dogs with humans, it has served very different purposes in the evolution of each species over time.
